    The Europa Uomo Patient Reported Outcome Study 2.0—Prostate Cancer Patient-reported Outcomes to Support Treatment Decision-making

    Background: To further strengthen the voice of patients, Europa Uomo initiated the Europa Uomo Patient Reported Outcome Study 2.0 (EUPROMS 2.0) in October 2021. Objective: To collect the self-reported perspective of prostate cancer (PCa) patients on physical and mental well-being after PCa treatment outside a clinical trial setting to inform future fellow patients about the impact of PCa treatment. Design, setting, and participants: Europa Uomo invited PCa patients to complete a cross-sectional survey including the validated EQ-5D-5L, EORTC-QLQ-C30, and the EPIC-26 questionnaires. Furthermore, the nine-item Shared Decision Making Questionnaire (SDM-Q-9) and diagnostic clinical scenarios were included. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Descriptive statistics was used to assess the demographic and clinical characteristics and to analyze the patient-reported outcome data. Results and limitations: Between October 25, 2021 and January 17, 2022, 3571 men from 30 countries completed the EUPROMS 2.0 survey. The median age of respondents was 70 yr (interquartile range 65–75 yr). Half of the respondents underwent one treatment, most often radical prostatectomy. Men who are treated actively experience lower health-related quality of life than men on active surveillance, mainly regarding sexual function, fatigue, and insomnia. Lower urinary incontinence levels were seen for men who underwent radical prostatectomy (single treatment or in combination with other treatments). Of the respondents, 42% indicated that the determination of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) value was part of a routine blood test; 25% wanted to undergo screening/early detection for PCa, and 20% indicated that the determination of the PSA value had a clinical reason. Conclusions: A large sample of 3571 international patients has contributed patient experience after PCa treatment in the EUPROMS 2.0 study, confirming that treatment for PCa mainly affects urinary incontinence, sexual function, fatigue, and insomnia. Such information can be used to direct toward a better patient-doctor relationship, to offer patients ready access to responsible information and a better understanding of their disease and treatment. Patient summary: Through the EUPROMS 2.0 survey, Europa Uomo has strengthened the voice of the patient. Such information can be used to inform future prostate cancer (PCa) patients about the impact of PCa treatment and to engage them in informed and shared decision-making.</p

    Technical and economic pre-feasibility study for the construction of septic tank-filter-sinkhole with alternative material

The wastewater treatment systems were built according to the recommendations in NBR 7229/93 and 13969/97. To evaluate the efficiency of each system built, the following parameters were analyzed: chemical oxygen demand (COD), the potential of hydrogen (pH), alkalinity, acidity, and temperature. In the economic evaluation, the materials and labor required to install the systems were considered using the Brazilian cost database (SINAPI), and an economic and financial feasibility study was carried out. According to the technical and economic analysis of construction, both systems showed the same technical performance, however, the concrete design proved to be more advantageous than the tire design, considering the difficulty in acquiring the tires and the high cost if it is necessary to buy them, in addition to the greater difficulty in handling and installing the tire system compared to the concrete one

    This investigation is devoted to the solutions of Einstein's field equations for a circularly symmetric anisotropic fluid, with kinematic self-similarity of the first kind, in (2+1)(2+1)-dimensional spacetimes. In the case where the radial pressure vanishes, we show that there exists a solution of the equations that represents the gravitational collapse of an anisotropic fluid, and this collapse will eventually form a black hole, even when it is constituted by the phantom energy.Comment: 10 page

    INFECCION FILARIAL DE APROCTELLA STODDARDI CRAM, 1931 (NEMATODA: ONCHOCERCIDAE) EN PASSERIFORMES DE AREAS PERIURBANAS, ESTADO DE PARÁ. BRASIL

    Reports of filarial nematodes in wild birds are scarce in South America, particularly in the Amazon region. We analyzed the organs in the thoracic and abdominal cavities of 34 wild birds belonging to 12 different species of the order Passeriformes in the Periurban areas of Para State. Adult filariae was observed in 3/34 (9%) birds, located in the abdominal cavity of hosts. The morphological and morphometric characteristics of the filarial nematodes were consistent with the taxonomic classification of Aproctella stoddardi Cram, 1931, making this the first report of this species in the Amazon region in northern Brazil. Due to the observed migration of other genera of filariae, Aproctella Cram, 1931 may have the ability to infection at other sites, such as the liver, heart, lung, and brain. In addition, it is necessary to expand the records of the presence of filariae in birds of the region to elucidate the factors that influence this infection.Reportes de nematodos filarias en aves silvestres son escasos en América del Sur, principalmente en la región amazónica. Fueron analizados los órganos de las cavidades torácica y abdominal de 34 aves silvestres pertenecientes a 12 especies diferentes de aves Passeriformes en áreas periurbanas del Estado de Pará. Filarias adultas fueron observadas en 3/34 (9%) aves, localizadas en la cavidad abdominal de los huéspedes Las características morfológicas y morfométricas de los nematodos fueron compatibles con la clasificación taxonómica de Aproctella stoddardi Cram, 1931, siendo este el primer relato de esta especie en la amazónica en el norte de Brasil. Debido a la migración observada de otros géneros de filarias, Aproctella Cram, 1931 puede tener la capacidad de infección en otros sitios, como hígado, corazón, pulmón y cerebro. Además, es necesario ampliar los registros de filarias en aves de la región para elucidar los factores que influencian esta infección

    Star Models with Dark Energy

    We have constructed star models consisting of four parts: (i) a homogeneous inner core with anisotropic pressure (ii) an infinitesimal thin shell separating the core and the envelope; (iii) an envelope of inhomogeneous density and isotropic pressure; (iv) an infinitesimal thin shell matching the envelope boundary and the exterior Schwarzschild spacetime. We have analyzed all the energy conditions for the core, envelope and the two thin shells. We have found that, in order to have static solutions, at least one of the regions must be constituted by dark energy. The results show that there is no physical reason to have a superior limit for the mass of these objects but for the ratio of mass and radius.Comment: 20 pages, 1 figure, references and some comments added, typos corrected, in press GR

    Efficient Implementation of Bilinear Pairings on ARM Processors

    Abstract. As hardware capabilities increase, low-power devices such as smartphones represent a natural environment for the efficient imple-mentation of cryptographic pairings. Few works in the literature have considered such platforms despite their growing importance in a post-PC world. In this paper, we investigate the efficient computation of the Optimal-Ate pairing over Barreto-Naehrig curves in software at differ-ent security levels on ARM processors. We exploit state-of-the-art tech-niques and propose new optimizations to speed up the computation in the tower field and curve arithmetic. In particular, we extend the concept of lazy reduction to inversion in extension fields, analyze an efficient al-ternative for the sparse multiplication used inside the Miller’s algorithm and reduce further the cost of point/line evaluation formulas in affine and projective homogeneous coordinates. In addition, we study the effi-ciency of using M-type sextic twists in the pairing computation and carry out a detailed comparison between affine and projective coordinate sys-tems. Our implementations on various mass-market smartphones and tablets significantly improve the state-of-the-art of pairing computation on ARM-powered devices, outperforming by at least a factor of 3.7 the best previous results in the literature

    Quantum-noise-induced macroscopic revivals in second-harmonic generation

    We investigate the behavior of the fundamental and second-harmonic fields in phase-matched traveling plane-wave second-harmonic generation, using the full-operator equations of motion. We find that, after a certain interaction length, both the macroscopic and quantum-statistical properties of the harmonic and fundamental fields are qualitatively different from those found in previous analyses. The mean fields do not vary in a monotonic way, but oscillate with the propagation length, leading to an unexpected periodic revival of the fundamental field, triggered by the quantum fluctuations always present in the mode. Accordingly, the amplitude noise of the fundamental, previously predicted to be perfectly squeezed for long interaction lengths, actually reaches a very small minimum for a definite length, then increases again
